Midgard
Your child learns to read.

Midgard is the world of people.
In Norse myth, Midgard is the middle world. The one given to people, ringed by ocean, held in the lower branches of the world tree.
The first two people, Ask and Embla, were made here — shaped by the gods from two pieces of driftwood found on the shore, and given breath, warmth and speech.
Thor keeps its edges. Whatever comes at Midgard from outside, he stands in the way of it, which is why the realm of ordinary mortal life is also the best guarded.
Where reading begins.
Ask and Embla began in Midgard, and so does your child. Sound out a rune, blend three sounds into a word, then read a story built only from words they already know. Every rune decoded puts another piece of the world back.

Midgard is the key to the other realms.
Nothing opens on a guess. A realm stays shut until your child can read their way through it, so Midgard has to be understood before anywhere else will answer.
That is the whole design. Reading is what the other eight realms are built on, and every one of them waits on it — so the time spent here is never time spent twice.
